    IN THE CLASSROOM:
    The Bookworm

BookWorm, by AbleNet, is a literacy tool designed for children with special needs as a voice output reading device. The memory in the device allows the teacher to record the words of the book. The child presses the activation area of the device or uses an attached switch to hear the words on each page. The child is hearing the words as well as seeing the text and pictures in the book.

Colton knows the BookWorm. He knows to turn the pages of the book to match either the number, the picture or both that indicate which page he will be hearing. He knows to push the switch to hear the words of the page Miss Gloria has recorded on the device ahead of time. He knows to access the extra switch provided to hear the repeating line of the story. Colton knows this is a great way to read!
