Designing a classroom to meet the needs of all students doesn‘t have to be as hard as it sounds!
Get started by asking yourself these questions:
- What needs to be accomplished in this space?
- What aspects of my daily routine need a designated space?
- What disabilities do my students have?
- What kinds of adaptations and accommodations do I know of that my students will need?
- What are my students’ sensory needs?
- What are my students’ social and emotional needs?
- What adults will share this space, and do they need seating or a designated area?
Use the following guide to map out your thoughts! You might not know all of the answers now, and that’s okay. This is a starting point, and setting up your classroom with the knowledge you have will help you have a more successful first day of class. You may still have to adjust and rearrange once you get to know your students better.
